Free Microsoft Antivirus

Just got the new PC World magazine. It came with a CD of Microsoft freebies.
Is the free Anti-virus, Malware any good?
Could it be Microsoft Spy-ware?
I am using XP pro & W7 Ultimate.

MSSE is probably the best of the free AVs at the moment.

installed it on a friends pc and it picked up all the stuff norton/AVG was missing

so definitely worth installing

+1 MSE is elite. Or Avira Antivir if you are not scared by an advanced user interface. Avira pwns in malware detection for a freebie.
