LAN connection help

:confused: Hey ya, i'm a newbie to this forum and I need some help with my internet connection... Basically, I can't connect to the internet. I'm with Paradise.net and have the cable modem. I've set up ip address, submask etc correctly. Used ping commands to ping localhost and the ip address. All good. But still no luck!!! Called help desk they couldn't help. The said it might be a Norton A.Virus setting and to call Norton. But I uninstalled it... Any ideas?

So youve run the internet connection wizard?
Made sure that 'enable connection to LAN/network when no other connection present' in IE (tools >internet options >connectivity) [this is from memory, the wording might be different] is checked?

Incidentally, what OS?
